Being part of the ableFamilies community has reminded me that we’re never truly alone on this journey. As a parent of a neurodivergent, nonverbal child, I’ve learned that progress doesn’t always look the way the world expects it to and that’s okay. One thing I would love to share with other families is how much my son’s AAC device has changed our lives, helping him express his needs, call me ‘mom,’ say his ABCs, count 1‑2‑3, name colors, and so much more. This journey has taught me that communication looks different for every child, and with the right tools, our children can truly thrive.

We make sure the talker is always available. We model not just communication but having fun and being silly with it too.

My 3-year-old nonverbal son now has a voice. I love he can tell me what he feels and what he wants. It makes our lives easier and gives me peace of mind.

We enjoy letting his siblings add thing on to his device! It helps him feel more secure about using it! This device has helped him pronounce so many new words! I’m so thankful for it!

My almost 21-month-old has had his device for about a month now. His favorite food is Peanut Butter. He eats it on everything and only tries new foods with PB on it. He learned to push the eat and peanut butter buttons and it is constant. We had to change the cracker picture from square crackers to round, because he eats mini Ritz and he kept pushing pizza, and peanut butter, and we realized the pizza looked sort of like ritz. It is amazing how quick he is picking up on the device and how quickly he is learning to navigate. I shared a video of him using his device to ask for peanut butter. This has been life-changing for him.

We take our aac device everywhere with my son. We don’t always use it, but it is always available. We use it for words here and there to model. We mainly use it so he can navigate and explore. I’ve noticed that since we started doing that, we have seen an increase in interest in using it. It also gives us a bonus to teach other people about his AAC and communicating with it.

My oldest was diagnosed with non verbal autism. We started using ablenet April of 2025 and he has been able to communicate with us and others more and more and actually starting to use his words now. Im very amazed with how far he has came in 8 months. With using ablenet not only you have a way to be able to know the needs of your child better but also may be able for them to verbally communicate better as well.

My son had his AAC device for months before things finally ‘clicked’ with him. When he realized he could use it to ask for more blueberries it was like a light finally went off! One of the sweetest things was watching him choose a song in music group and having the music therapist honor his request just as they would any speaking child who makes a request. It was the first time he really got to participate in a way that other kids take for granted.

I just wanted to say that my 6-year-old with apraxia has improved so much since receiving his QuickTalker device earlier this year. He loves to tell stories and is able to better tell us what he needs on it. He feels so much more included now that he’s able to do this. Thank you.
